Week 17

My grandpa Harold is eighty four years old. He just turned eighty-four in February. My grandpa Harold is my mom's dad. He is a huge Cubs and Bears fan and he has been to every state in the U.S. My grandpa used to be in the army. He's a very intelligent man. He always has some kind of interesting story about his life experiences. Unfortunately, my grandpa probably will not be around much longer. He is getting older and has a lot of health issues. His main problem is that he has a pig's valve in his heart that was only supposed to last fifteen years and it was put in thirteen years ago. Life definitely won't be the same without him around.

Week 16

My grandma Barbara is actually my step-grandma. She married my grandpa Harold before I was born. She is just another grandma to me though because I have not known any different my whole life. Barbara loves to cook like my other grandma. She is especially good at cookies. She sells Pampered Chef and bakes for her parties a lot. She is also active in her church and is in the choir and bells. Barbara has a chubby little dog named Molly. Molly has been around ever since I was in first grade so she is getting pretty old. Unfortunately for Barbara she is also really clumsy and has a tendency to fall and hurt herself a lot.

Week 15

My aunt Robin is my aunt by marriage. She married my dad's brother Steve and had two kids with him, Nathan and Adelyn. Robin is a really hard-working woman. She grew up in the country on a farm so she definitely is a lot less prissy than a girl who has grown up in town like me. Robin has her own garden out at her house. She also has animals such as chickens and rabbits and horses. She has been a hair stylist for several years. Just a few years ago Robin actually opened up her own shop out at their house. Robin coaches the preschool gymnastics classes at Talents Unlimited on the weeknights. She is currently in the process of building her own bakery. Right now she only cuts hair one day a week because she is busy baking for her business the rest of the time.

Week 14

My uncle Trent is actually my uncle by marriage. He married my dad's sister Lauri a long while before I was born. Trent is a really cool guy. We have a lot of talks about life every time I see him. Trent was in the marines after he graduated high school. He eventually went on to law school and became a lawyer. He does not like his job anymore. He always tells me to stick with the medical field and do not ever go to law school. He currently works at a law firm in Mt. Vernon, IL. Trent is a very laid back guy, especially compared to his wife. It is a wonder how they have ever worked out as well as they have.

Week 13

My Grandpa Wally is an entertaining man. He reminds me very much of my father. Grandpa Wally is really good with young kids, but somewhat awkward with teenagers like myself. My Grandpa Wally has seven brothers and sisters. He was the only of his siblings to not remain Catholic. Every now and then one of my grandpa's siblings will come to town with their kids. My grandpa was also the only one of his siblings to stay in Paris. My grandpa Wally is a huge baseball fan also. He loves the St. Louis Cardinals. He also loves to watch his grandchildren play softball and baseball.

Week 12

My grandma Judy, my dad's mom, is one of my favorite people. I've learned a lot from having her as my grandmother. My grandma Judy is an excellent cook. There is nothing better than going to her house because every single time she always has some kind of homemade cookie or pie made. She's a really good at making scrapbooks as well. She always comes to all of her grandchildren's events and takes pictures. She makes a scrapbook of everything important that happened with all of us for every year. My grandma Judy is also very challenged at working modern technology. She has a flip phone for her cell phone and she uses Facebook on her computer. I love getting emails from her because they are always almost comical. She doesn't know how to type very well so it is always amusing trying to read them.

Week 11

My uncle Steve is the youngest of my dad's siblings. My dad and Steve are a lot like my sister and I in the way that they do not even look related. Steve is over six feet tall and pale and blonde headed.
My dad is fairly short and tan and has brown hair. Steve is the goofy sibling of the three. My dad and his sister Lauri are very serious and mature. Steve worked as a state cop for server all years. Recently he got promoted and he now works in Champaign dealing with police evidence and such. My dad and Lauri always picked on Steve as a child because he was the youngest. They tell stories a lot about how they used to chase him with a Pink Panther doll because it scared him.

Week 10

My dad Kevin is next. Even though I hate to admit it sometimes, he's one of my favorite people. I am so much like him sometimes it's freaky. We are both very stubborn and very unemotional. My family has always said that I look like my mother and act like my father. My dad is extremely book smart as well. He went to Purdue and got his bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He was going to obtain his master's degree but my mom got pregnant with me so he never did. Now my dad works at IDOT. I remember going to "bring your daughter to work day" as a kid every year. It was always boring but I loved missing school and getting to hang out with

Week 9

Now that I have written about all of the Trapp cousins in my generation, I am going to write a little bit about each of my father's siblings. I'm going to start with my aunt Lauri because she is the oldest of the three. Lauri has three children, Shawn, Jessica, and Aaron. She went to the University of Illinois and got her degree to become an account. She's extremely intelligent, especially at math. Lauri married Trent Marshall who works at a law firm in Mt. Vernon where their family lives. I am pretty close with my aunt Lauri. We email back and forth often because I don't get to see them very much. Lauri has a big heart and is very quiet and conservative. She's a really cool aunt. I'm lucky to have her.

Week 8

Baby Aaron is the next and youngest out of my generation on the Trapp side. Aaron just turned three years old on February 7th. Aaron lives in Mt. Vernon, IL with his siblings Shawn and Jessica. Like his sister Jessica, Aaron is a wild child. He is especially full of energy for a child his age. Aaron also loves to play baseball with his brother Shawn. He hits very well for a three year old which always makes his brother and dad excited. Aaron is the first cousin I had that I can actually remember the day they were born and meeting them as a baby. I met him when I was fourteen and in eighth grade. Aaron has bright blonde hair like his sister but he definitely has his brother's facial features.

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Week 7

Adelyn is another one of my favorites. She's six years old and about to turn seven in March. Adelyn is my little cheerleader. She's also a level two gymnast. Adelyn is a very sassy little girl to say the least. Her brother Nathan calls her bossy britches. Adelyn is a really big momma's girl. She loves to come hang out with the family but she can't ever be away from her mom for too long. She has a bunny that she names Pringles. Tonight Adelyn is coming to a cheer clinic with the high school cheerleaders and I'm really excited.

Week 6

Jessica is the next of my cousins. I would never want to pick favorites, but if I had to Jessica would definitely be one of them. Jessica is nine years old and is in third grade. She lives in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Jessica and I have always had a special bond. She does not have any sisters so she kind of looks to me as one. Jessica has always been a wild child. She has so much energy and is always running around and doing something crazy. It's really ironic because Jessica's mom Lauri has the complete opposite personality as Jessica. She's very laid back and conservative; Jessica is the exact opposite. The past couple years Jessica has been learning how to read and write so we are pen pals. She writes me letters and draws little pictures with them and I always write her back. It's really sweet.

Week 5

Nathan is the next oldest in the family. Nathan is ten years old and a fourth grader at Crestwood here in Paris. Nathan is a very dorky little boy, for lack of a better word. He's also very kind though. He loves sports and especially baseball. His favorite team is the Cardinals. He always watches the games with our Grandpa when the family gets together. Nathan is kind of small for his age but he wants to start playing junior league football next year. I'm not quite sure how that will go, but I hope it goes well for his sake. Nathan is one of the two boys within all of us Trapp cousins, so he very much looks up to our cousin Shawn. They are two peas in a pod.

Week 4

Peyton is the next oldest of my cousins. She's twelve years old and a sixth grader at Crestwood Junior High School here in Paris. Peyton is actually my step-cousin but she feels just like another cousin to the family. Peyton is very tall for her age and can eat a ton of food for being a twelve year old girl. My family always jokes about this when we get together because she never fails to eat more food than anyone. Peyton has been a gymnast her whole life and has gotten really good at it. She is also a cheerleader and I love that there is another girl in the family to share the love of it with. Last weekend the Crestwood cheer team actually placed 2nd at the state cheerleading competition which was very exciting. I was definitely a proud big cousin. Peyton is also on the competitive gymnastics team at her gym and competes with them during the winter and summer. She used to play softball and basketball but she has come to devote her time to gymnastics and cheerleading.

Week 3

Shawn is the next oldest of my cousins. Shawn is thirteen and a seventh grader. He and his family live in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, which is about two hours south of Paris. Shawn is definitely the athlete of the family. His best sport is baseball but he plays basketball and football for his school and community leagues. Shawn has always been somewhat mature for his age so he gets along with my sister and I well. He was bullied a lot at his public school, so this year he started at a private Christian school. They do not have school on Fridays but they have to keep a certain GPA to stay in the school. We always call Shawn the "gambler." He has always been somewhat of a daredevil at everything he does. When we play family baseball games he's always trying to steal a base even when he could easily be thrown out. Lucky for him he's very quick.

Monday, January 11, 2016

Week 2

My sister Emilie is the oldest our of us eight cousins, not including myself. Emilie is fifteen and a freshman at the high school. Emilie has one of the best personalities I know. She is a very kind-hearted person and one who is just fun to be around. Emilie plays travel softball for the Indiana Outkast and is going to play for the high school if all goes well. I can't even begin to count how many softball games I've been to for her. When she was five and I was seven she won the Little Miss Edgar County fair queen pageant and I still have memories of it to this day. I am not like her and do not like pageants or anything of the sort. For an entire week my family lived at the fairgrounds and off of fair food, catering Emilie around and getting her hair done and her dresses put on for all of her several appearances. Needless to say it's a bitter memory for me but I still love my sister dearly and am very grateful for the friendship I will always have in her.

Week 1

Family is an important part of my life, as it is almost anyone’s. For my blog, I thought it would be interesting to write about all of my family members and the different memories I share with them. Hopefully I am able to reconcile important memories and record them with this blog. I only have one year left of high school so this couldn’t be a better time to start recording some of my childhood. For my first blog, I am just going to write about all of my family members and a little bit about who they are. On my dad’s side, I am the oldest of my cousins. My dad, Kevin, has two siblings, Lauri and Steve, who each have three kids. Lauri has Shawn who is thirteen, Jessica who is nine, and Aaron who is two. Steve has Peyton who is twelve, Nathan who is ten, and Adelyn who is six. My dad has my sister Emilie who is fifteen and I am seventeen. On my mom’s side, I am the second youngest, only beat by my sister. Brian is my oldest cousin, then his brother Judd and then Aaron.
